Metal Is Ideal For Mansard Roofs

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Most roofing materials depend heavily (pun intended) on gravity to hold them together. When you have a low to moderate sloped roof, gravity works in favor of most roofing materials. It helps hold the roofing product to the roof. This is the case with standard shingles, wood shakes, slate, tile, and many of the newer polymer-based products.

For that reason, very steeply pitched mansard roofs present a problem. In the case of these types of roofs. gravity is acting against you, trying to cause materials to slip off of the roof, not be held down to the roof.

Most metal roofing products, though, feature interlocking panels. These panels are held together one to the next by an actual mechanical lock.

For that reason, in comparison to gravity-bound products (which sometimes are not even warranted on steep mansard roofs), metal products are ideal for these applications. Another issue with heavier gravity-held products on steel roofs is that, if the products crack or split or somehow slip out of place, the heavy material slipping from the roof can pose a personal injury threat to anyone it might hit on its way down to the ground.

It’s Not Too Late

While our company has had a year of continued growth, there is no escaping the fact that, overall, this has not been a strong year for home remodeling and other construction in the United States. I think that many homeowners have just been putting off decisions, probably for a variety of reasons. One of which may simply be that we’re all so busy these days!

The last couple of weeks, though, our independent dealers across the country have seen a HUGE upswing in terms of interest from homeowners in their area and also in terms of contracts they are writing and jobs they are scheduling.

I share this for just one reason — if you’re a homeowner and you know that your next roof is inevitable … and you know that you’re seeking a beautiful and durable metal roof, then NOW is the time to seek out and contact your local Classic Metal Roofing Systems independent dealer. Their schedules are filling up fast for the end of the year!

We hope to hear from you soon! We’re anxious to work hard for your confidence and satisfaction.

Metal Roofing: It’s More Than Just Materials

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

We talk a lot here at Classic about the quality materials and processes that we put into manufacturing the best roofs under the sun. Recycled content aluminum alloy, Kynar/Hylar finishes, reflective pigments … the list goes on. But, from a homeowner perspective, there is a lot more to a successful roof project than just great materials.

I usually hear from many homeowners each week who are seeking a successful roof installation and one thing I always remind them is that proper installation is also a big key to success.

I will write more in the future about things you can ask a contractor … ways to gauge whether they really care about installation, know what they’re doing, and have the proper credentials.

But today I want to celebrate one of our independent dealers and the great responses they are receiving from their customers. Many contractors have Testimonial pages on their websites, and those are very important. But keep in mind that they hand-selected what they would put up there.

Click the link below though to see comments posted in an open forum (Google Local Business) and learn about the great work this company is doing and the way they are satisfying their customers.

Do it once, Do it right

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I have over 25 years of experience now in the residential metal roofing business. It is hard to believe but it is true.

As a result of my experience, many homeowners contact me each week asking me to help them sort out their roofing situations. Many of these cases are very sad stories of folks choosing metal roofing products that were not correct for their home, or installers who did not know what they were doing. I wish so much that I would hear from folks before they make a decision that is not correct for them or their home.

The residential metal roofing industry has done a solid job in recent years of educating consumers about our products. More and more homeowners are aware of metal and choosing metal when it comes time for them to make a roofing decision.

That sounds good, doesn’t it? After all, much of my life has been devoted to furthering our industry.

The problem is that folks are rushing into decisions thinking that all metal roofing products are the same. It isn’t their fault but they do not understand that metal roofing is not a “generic” or “commodity” item.

Then, when they end up with products that do not complement their home’s beauty, or worse, yet, they end up with products that do not last nearly as long as they expected or products that perhaps simply will not perform at all on a residence, it gives a black eye to our industry. And that is when I end up hearing their sad stories that do break my heart.

So, how can a person make a decision in metal roofing that will be lasting, functional, and beautiful?

Do your research. Look for companies like Classic Metal Roofing Systems that focus on manufacturing products specifically for the residential arena. Be aware of the fact that many manufacturers actually are in business for the commercial and agricultural industry segments even though people do sometimes try to make their products work residentially as well, often unsuccessfully.

One of the best ways to gather information is to download and read the Homeowners Guide to Metal Roofing that is available through our website. It explains the differences between various products from profiles to base metals to finishes.

Do your research. Think it through.

Do it once, Do it right.
