A Christmas Message From Our President

Even though it was over 19 years ago, I remember it like it was yesterday. And, every time I think about it, it sends a chill down my spine and brings tears to my eyes. Just a few minutes after our son was born, a nurse handed him to me – his very proud dad. I looked down at this tiny and absolutely beautiful newborn cradled in my arms. The delivery room’s bright lights were shining overhead. The nurse suggested that I hold my hand up to shield Evan’s tightly closed eyes from the lights and, immediately when I did that, his huge blue eyes popped open and began to gaze into mine. My heart melted and I was hooked.
We’d waited a lot of years for him to come along and, at the age of 35 and given the problems we’d had conceiving, we knew that he would probably be our only child. Over the years, he was always a great kid and, now that he’s a young man, he still brings us great pride.
Evan has always kind of “broken the mold” – from being born when we’d given up on having a child to always being fairly quiet but exceptionally smart. Sure, every parent rightfully boasts in their child but, for us, he truly broke the mold. From being a couple focused on our own lives to having something else to focus on – a youngster to guide and nurture, to help through school, take to piano lessons, and be involved with Cub Scouts. Our lives changed dramatically when those big eyes popped open and locked with ours.
On his high school academic team, he broke the mold when all of the others were answering questions about derivatives, chemical equations, and Greek mythology and his answers were things like “Breaking Bad,” “Freebird,” and “Lynyrd Skynyrd.” (That was when I knew we’d done pretty well raising our son!) Today, as a student at Cedarville University, our heads spin when we look at the textbooks for his Computer Engineering major with minors in Computer Science, Bible, and Math. A true whiz kid, he broke the mold. And, like the beauty and wonder of every new birth, he always will.
Each Christmas, we at Isaiah Industries focus on a birth over 2000 years ago that broke the mold like none ever had before and none ever will again. The birth of our Savior, born to a virgin of humble means. It’s impossible to compare the birth and life of Jesus Christ to anything or anyone else but I wonder what Mary and Joseph thought as they looked into their son’s bright eyes the first time. Did they realize His future? Whether you are a believer or not, He changed the world by bringing peace, hope, and love along with new ideas that broke paradigms. I am the Way and the Truth and the Life! Come, follow Me! Love your neighbor as yourself! Hey, let’s eat with tax collectors!
Yes, Jesus broke the mold in so many ways. And, what’s more, He’s still breaking molds. Throughout the world, we see people attest to lives transformed, spirits renewed, and hope restored through His power. Through His followers, we see love for others spring up in the most unlikely of places. We see visions for a tomorrow with peace and justice. All because of how He broke the mold.
If you’re not on a journey with Christ, we respect that and we appreciate your indulging us a bit to allow us to wear our hearts on our sleeves during what is a very sacred time of the year for us.
