A Month For Veterans

November 10, 2015 | Filed under: Misc. Good News,Newsletter Articles,Uncategorized

It is November – a month for giving thanks. And a month where we spotlight veterans and current members of the US and Canadian armed forces.

To all current and former armed service members – we recognize but can’t begin to imagine what all you sacrificed for your countrymen. We salute you and most humbly thank you. You answered a call to step away from civilian life and enter unknown worlds to protect and defend ideals and individuals. Missing out on so many things that are common parts of growing up and adulthood, you chose a loftier commitment. And, again, we thank you and your families. We pray that, as you go forward with your lives, you receive the respect and honor which you deserve so very much.

This November, as we have done in past years, we will provide a $500 Factory Rebate to current or past US or Canadian military members who choose to purchase one of our metal roofing systems. To take advantage of this offer, please request that your contractor send us a copy of your November-signed contract. This rebate is but a very small token and way of showing that we truly appreciate our military members and their families. Please feel free to pass along this information to any current or past military members whom you know. You can learn more about the rebate, and our roofing systems here.

This year, we will also make a contribution to the American Merchant Marines Veterans based upon our total sales in November 2015. This organization represents about 2200 living Merchant Marines who served during World War II. The US Merchant Marines served with great courage in World War II and suffered significant casualties as they worked to protect ships crossing the oceans. Interestingly, members of the Merchant Marines were not a part of the GI Bills that supported returning troops after World War II. Their unique story is told here by a dear friend of ours, Mr. Dave Yoho, who served in the Merchant Marines during the war.

Finally, we encourage us all to take that extra effort to get to know the new acquaintances we make in November. We never truly can appreciate others until we know and understand their stories. They may be veterans of wars or veterans of life’s difficulties…they may be on the mountaintop or in the valley…they may be happy or sad … but, like us all, they are God’s children.

One of the things that we’re most thankful for is the gift of relationships. Through connections with others, we all learn and grow and our lives are forever changed. So, as we reflect on our thankfulness this month, may we honor that gratitude by getting to know those around us a little better, a little more deeply, and a lot more lovingly. That kind of love has changed the world.
